an ancient pyramid was discovered in the southern highlands of Ecuador; an enigma among all major archeological sites in the Americas. An elite group of Archeologists were invited to study, analyse, and carbon date the Pyramid. Their findings shocked them beyond belief forcing them to rethink history once again.
Constructed on the peak of a mystical mountain 3300m above sea level, located higher than every other pyramid in the world, the 450m long and 40m tall temple ruins were carbon dated at 2400 years BC pre dating the Incas and the Aztecs making it the cradle of civilisation in South American.
The pyramid is an ancient observatory of the “INTI” God the sun, where Amautas and Yacchas (Andean wiseman and priests) would unite to heal and praise Mother Earth or ¨Pacha Mama” , to worship and thank her for the prosperity bestowed to the people of the Andes in the form of a good harvest, health, and spirituality.
The pyramid is UNIQUE among all others in the world, measurements and arial photos show that it was constructed in the form a giant “Guacamaya” an endangered bird sacred to the Andean people and the holiest of all spirits. The Guacamaya is also related to the birth of the Cañari people, and it´s symbol is omnipresent in all Latin American cultures. Holy and ceremonial jars, and pots symbolising the Guacamaya have been found amongst the indigenous tribes of the Guarani and the Incas and even as far north as Central America in Aztec and Mayan culture.

Walk amongst cascading waterfalls that flowing from jagged glaciated peaks that claw up into the sky and marvel at mystical lagoons hidden by an haunting mist that pervades this prehistoric swampland. It is no wonder that the few locals who’ve dared to venture inside The Altar call it “El Mundo Perdido” - The Lost World.
Once the largest volcano on Earth, El Altar exploded under its own weight and all that remains are nine 5000+ metre spires resembling an altar from a colonial church. This is Ecuadors hardest Trek and only for people in peak physical condition willing to brave the cold and bad weather.

Visit one of the last remains of Ecuador’s Andean wildernesses, entering sacred highlands, and paramos, we enter the eastern Andean sight of Altar’s peaks, passing highland Polilepis forests, we enter the grounds of puma and highland wolfs, deer, curiquingue and if lucky condor’s.
We start descending into a thick Andean forest where birds and tapirs live in tranquillity, the hard access to the area has made it so that nature goes day by day as it has been for the past thousand years, a look of what the first explorer’s most have seen in their time.
Trekking the tapir’s route, through a dark forest where light can hardly penetrate, trees seem to grow in every direction, defying gravity, trunks and branches seem not to understand this law, they grow up down side ways, as if seeing a giant green noodle mass, covered in muss and flowers, we enter caves, and be dazzled by endless water falls, a clean river streams down from the Andean peaks of Altar to the valleys further down, an ideal spot for fishermen, at night the frog choirs give a unique experience for the existing variety in this forests, and streams.
Birds seem to have no fear of man, since there has been no contact, they rather approach in curiosity, giving bird lovers a rare chance to see them with the naked eye, no need for binoculars or spotting scopes, they seem careless of our presence
