Guided tour #1: Historic Route

Destination(s): Bahirdar,Gondar,Lalibela ,Axum
Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa; welcomed by your guide be transferred to your hotel. Overnight Holiday Hotel.
Day 2: Drive to Debre Markos; en route visit the 13th century Debre Libanos monastery, the Portuguese bridge, and the Blue Nile Gorge, which is similar to the Grand canyons of America. Overnight Debre Markos
Day 3: Drive to Bahir Dar and on your way visit one traditional Amhara house. In the afternoon, city tour of the town. Overnight Bahirdar
Day 4: Have a boat trip on Lake Tana to visit one of the 14th century island monasteries. In the afternoon, drive to the Blue Nile Falls, 32 km south of the town and drive back. Overnight BahirDar
Day 5: Bahir . Drive to Gondar and visit the medieval castles enclosure (world heritage site), Debre Berhane Sellassie church renown in its ceiling paintings. Overnight.
Day 6: Gondar - Axum. Drive to Axum the ancient city of Ethiopia, passing and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Semien Mountains National Park (world heritage site), and visiting the Felasha Village. Overnight Axum
Day 7: Full day visit of Axum to the obelisks, the archeological museum for its prehistoric and historic relics, the 6th century tombs of king Kaleb and his son Gebremeskal, palace of queen Sheba, St. Mary of Zion church, where the original Ark of the Covenant resides. Overnight Axum
Day 8: Drive to Mekele, on your way visit Yeha Temple (500B.C.), the first known town in Ethiopian history and the rock hewn churches of Tigray. Overnight Mekele
Day 9: Mekele - Lalibela. Drive to Lalibela, enjoying the landscape on your way. Overnight Lalibela
Day 10: Lalibela. Visit to the rock hewn churches of Lalibela (world heritage site). Overnight Lalibela
Day 11: Lalibela. In the morning, mule ride to visit Asheten Mariam church (2 hours ride per way). In the afternoon, have free time to relax by yourself

Day 1, Arrival at Bole international Airport Drive to Arba Minch, sightseeing on the way, stopping over at Debre Zeit and Ziway. Overnight: Arba Minch.swaynes hotel
Day 2 In the morning a visit to a village of the Dorze people who are well known with their craft of weaving as well as their 12-meter high huts made up of bamboo and false banana leaves. 42 km away from Arba Minch is a hilly mountain about 2700 m above sea level. You will have a nice scenery from the top of the Dorze and you will have a 360 degree view of Arba Minch including both lakes of Chamo and Abaya.Afternoon after lunch break we drive about 8 km to Lake Chamo to make a boat trip in order to visit giant crocodiles on the shore of the lake, moreover hippos in large numbers are accessible on the same lake, and you may have a closer look at them. Overnight: Arba Minch Swaynes hotel .
Day 3 We proceed to Jinka via Konso and Woyto. Visiting: the Agro Patoralist of Konso tribal people. Konso is one of the world’s heritage site recorded by UNESCO due to its wonderful stone terracing to protect soil washing by erosion. The Konso tribal people are the most hardworking people in the region. Woyto is a territory of semi-nomadic of the Tsemay tribal people; we will stop over there for tea or coffee break. Day 4, Early morning drive to visit the Mursi tribe, a minority people living in the Lower Omo Valley. The Mursi tribe is well known for their clay lip-plates. Mostly, after harvesting season (Nov, Dec, Jan) you may see “Donga” stick fighting A drive from Jinka to Mago then to Mursi village and back is amongst some of the most beautiful scenery due to high hills, mountains, and white grass plains. Day 5 If todayay is Thursday, we will have a bigger chance to visit the market of Key Afer where we will see Bena, Ari and Karos gathering together to buy and sell their merchandise such as honey, jewellery, farming tools, goat, cows etc. You may also have a chance – mostly in the afternoon – to visit locals having a pure honey wine. Afternoon, driving to Turmi. Overnight Turmi.camping
Day 6 Morning drive to the village of the Karo people. The Karo people are the most fascinating tribe due to clay painting on their faces and body. They live on the top plain and in the vicinity of the Omo river. Overnight: Turmi camping
Day 7, Morning drive to Omorate, visiting the Dasenech\Galeb tribes across the Omo river. The Dasenech tribe lives in small huts on a flat plain above the river and is one of the most interesting tribes of the Omo valley. If Today is Satuarday, we will have a chance to visit the Dimeka Market where the Hamer and Karo Tribal people attend. In the afternoon a visit to a Hamer village is one of the fantastic experiences, and eventually you may experience a wonderful ceremony of “Bull Jumping” which usually takes half a day starting from a ritual ceremony of wipping the girls’ backs with sticks by boys of the same family. Overnight at the camping site at Turmi.
Day 8, Driving to Yabello via Konso , we will have a stopover at Arebore to visit the tribal people who are semi-nomadic pastoralists. They are known for their different dressing style. On this same Day, we visit a geological formation near a Konso village which really looks like a set of beautiful skyscrapers and is named New York but whose real local name is Gesergio. Additionaly we will have a chance to visit one of the villages with the so-called Generation Stone and see a standing carved wood sculpture (Waga) on the tomb side. in the afternoon proceed to yabello . Overnight
Day 9, in the morning visit the borena village ..We drive further to Awassa throught the very green rigion of sidama where the best coffe is widely grown .overnight Aregash lodg

All reviewsJ'ai passé tout le mois de novembre dernier en Ethiopie avec Yohannes Bekele et en sa compagnie, nous avons visité le sud et le nord de ce fabuleux pays.
C'est un guide très gentil, et agréable, qui parle très bien français et connaît parfaitement son pays. Nous étions 3, il a su se plier à nos exigences et nous faire découvrir en plus des choses inattendues.

Je rentre d'un circuit dans le nord de l'Ethiopie (Lalibela, Axum, Gondar, Bahar Dar). Je suis passée par une agence et le hasard a fait que le guide était Yohannes. Il parle très bien français, il connait très bien l'histoire de son pays. Il est charmant, serviable. C'est vraiment un excellent guide.
Il est difficile de trouver meilleur guide.

Yohannes nous a aidés par internet à préparer notre circuit vers le nord. Nous sommes un couple de 65 ans et il a pu nous ménager sur deux semaines un beau voyage riche en rencontres culturelles. Il connaît son pays, le terrain, l'histoire, il est à l'aise dans la relation et les négociations avec les autorités. C'est très important dans cette région. En aout 2016 pendant 2 semaines nous avons mon compagnon et moi apprécié la compagnie de notre guide Yohannes Bekele pour une découverte d' Addis Abeba jusqu'à Axum au Nord en approfondissant les églises de Lalibela et les églises du Tigray .
