Cagliari is the administrative capital of Sardinia, the seat of the council and regional government and also the main port and commercial and industrial centre of the island. It is a modern town that has nevertheless been able to preserve its historical roots.Arriving into the main street via Roma, we’ll have a first look to Cagliari; We continue along the beach of Poetto, a sandy beach stretching more than ten kilometres (six miles). On its south western limit is the characteristic rocky formation known as “Sella del Diavolo” (Devil’s Saddle). The salt pools in the area are an extraordinary scarlet colour during the period of maximum water evaporation and in the winter they attract a large number of birds – particularly pink flamingos. Coming back to the capital, we’ll stop at the Basilica of Bonaria, which stands against the old church in Aragonese Gothic style. From here, we can admire a complete view over the Gulf of Cagliari. Before continuing to the old part of Cagliari, where we commence our walking tour we’ll have a photo-stop in Monte Urpinu: one of Cagliari’s main attractions is its panoramic position in amongst natural surroundings. To the south lies the great Golfo Degli Angeli – “Gulf of the Angels”, while the lagoons of Santa Gilla and Molentargius now appear to be almost enclosed by the urban network of the town, with its wide suburban belt flights of flamingos, ducks and herons. The Aragonese and Spaniards gave the town its walls, ramparts and fine buildings, and a certain atmosphere can still be felt today in the wrought iron balconies in the old districts of Stampace, Marina and Villanova. The half-day excursion to the Devil's Saddle will bring you in an unpolluted environment at just 5 minutes from the city center.
The beautiful peninsula is an incredible concentration of history and environment, as the remains of the Phoenician temple of Astarte, the great Punic and Roman tanks, Spanish towers and forts of the 2°nd World War .
The whole area is surrounded by a crystal clear sea and in summer it's possible to swim and snorkel.

Near the old village of Santadi, there are caves of particular interest called ''Is Zuddas''. Immediately after the entrance, on the vault, we can see the remains of an extint rodent, the Prolagus Sardus, disappeared about 400 years ago. It lived only in Sardinia and Corsica.They are naturally carved in the Cambrian limestone of the mountain of Meana. The tunnel that allows access to these caves presents a series of rooms full of concretions. The first room is called ''room of the columns'' because of the presence of various stalactites and stalagmites which join together to form columns. Passing through a natural tunnel one can reach the ''Organ'' room, which owes its name to a column similar to an organ. At the bottom and over the walls there are corral and needle-shaped aragonites. The third room is the so called ''theatre'' room which is wonderful and very large. The fourth room is the so called ''Eccentric'' room. The vault of this room is fabulous because of the presence of unique eccentric aragonites which have developed in the vault in every direction without observing the rules of gravity.In the same area there are other very beautiful and interesting caves such as the Cave of Pirosu, inside which there is a vaulted sanctuary dating from the Nuragic period, the cave of Campanaccio and the cave of Capra.
