Ascoli Piceno is considered the major center of the southern Marche, notable for its many towers and breathtaking town square. The city is renowned for La Quintana, a jousting tournament, the first Sunday in August each year, complete with games, special food stalls, and a medieval carnival atmosphere including a processional of the townspeople in medieval costume
A visit to the most important sites of the Ascoli Piceno includes:
Piazza Arringo with the Cathedral and the Baptistry, the Bishop Palace, the Arengo Palace;
Visit to the Cathedral;
Piazza del Popolo;
The Church of San Francesco;
Characteristic walk through the Medieval Town and along the river Tronto.

Lorenzo Lotto was born in Venice in around 1480, worked in Treviso and Bergamo in Northern Italy as well as in the Marche. Towards the end of his life he settled in Loreto. He became a lay brother in the Monastery of the Holy House in 1554 and died there in 1556.

MOGLIANO - Parish Church - Assumption (1548)
MONTE SAN GIUSTO - Church of Santa Maria in Telusiano - Crucifixion
RECANATI - Pinacoteca Villa Colloredo-Mels - Polyptych of San Domenico (1508); Transfiguration (c1512); Annunciation (c1528).
It is possible to buy a single ticket which gives you access to several museums dotted around the centre of Le Marche displaying the works of Lorenzo Lotto, one of the finest painters of the Renaissance.
