Guided tour #1: Ancona city tour

Duration : 5 hours
Level : easy Easy
Ancona is the busy administrative capital of the Marche and the largest city in the region. It may not seem an obvious tourist centre. Give it time, though, and you may acquire a taste for the salt and spice of this restless sea port, boasting a remarkable roman arch dedicated to the roman Emperor Trajan.
The tour starts with a stop at the ''Passetto'' monument, the memorial to the victims of the World War I.
The oldest part of town straddles Colle Guasco, the hill above the port. On its peak, high above the agitation of the modern city, stands Ancona's finest church and its most obvious landmark, the Medieval Cathedral of San Ciriaco, a pleasing mix of Romanesque and Gothic architecture.
Once visited the cathedral, you'll travel downhill on foot, crossing historical monuments such as the remains of a roman amphitheatre, the Palace of the Elders, the Church of Saint Francis, the elegant Pope Square and Mazzini Street with its historical fountain, a regimented row of 13 masked spouts.

Guided tour #2: Frasassi caves

Duration : 1 day
Level : medium Medium
Frasassi Caves is one of Italy's largest and most famous complex of caves.
Equipped with walkways and theatrical lighting, it includes the awesome Grotta Grande del Vento, Europe's largest single cavern, so vast that Milan Cathedral would fit comfortably inside, and some of the most extravagantly fanciful stalagmites and stalactites you are ever likely to see.
The visit will last 1 hour and a half ; dress up warmly as the temperature inside is a constantly low 14 degrees C.
Worthwhile visiting is the nearby Romanesque church in the little spa of San Vittore delle Chiuse and speleo museum.

Guided tour #3: The shrine of Loreto

Duration : 1 day
Level : easy Easy
The striking hill town of Loreto lies just inland from the Adriatic Sea and is one of the world's most important shrines to the cult of the Virgin Mary. The town mainly exists to service the thousands of pilgrims who travel here from around the world.
The great dome of the Shrine dominates the countryside for miles around; below it stands the focus of piety - the rustic cottage from Nazareth that witnessed the Annunciation and the childhood of Jesus
Although the Santa Casa arrived, according to tradition, in 1294, it was not until 1507 that the Church finally approved of Loreto as a place of pilgrimage, though work on the church had begun in 1468. It was Pope Julius II who decided to pull out all the stops and give the primitive cottage a fit setting. The result is a showcase of work by many of the most celebrated names of Late Renaissance Italy and gives even the unbeliever good reason to come here. Started on Gothic lines, later architects including Bramante and Sansovino gave the church a thorough Late Renaissance treatment.
