Taormina, with its corners, its atmospheres and its colours, has always bewitched anyone who comes to visit it. The charm of ''the pearl of the Ionian sea'' has remained unchanged through times.
The birth of the city was due to the settlement of some Greek sailors coming from the near Naxos.
With the first domination, Tauromenion (this is its first name) took the typical form of the Greek colonies : from the building of the Agorà, necessary centre of the city.
The construction of what is rightly regarded as the civic symbol, the famous Ancient Theatre, goes back to this period. It was built in the 3rd century Before Christ, using the morphology of the hill; it is surrounded by a breathtaking view, including two geographical extremes: the Bay of Naxos and Mount Etna.
The Romans changed the theatre into an Amphitheatre.
Taormina became in the Byzantine period capital of eastern Sicily.
The history of this tourist centre, which was subjected to several dominations, continued with te coming of the Arabs in the 10th century.
As a result of the Norman domination, in the 11th century, Taormina witnessed the rebirth of Christianity and several monasteries were founded .
A further domination was the Spanish occupation.
Nowadays, Taormina is a centre of attraction among Sicilian tourist resorts. The city has a long, noble tradition of cultured and sophisticated tourism and preserves undimmed all its glamour.

Mount Etna Donkey Trekking
The ride con be about 60 minutes but even till 5 hours ( 5-6 persons ).
The excursion is mostly on plain ground, in the surroundings of Linguaglossa.
In the countryside and now, during the summer in the Ragabo Corsican pine forest.
The scenery offers a wide range of interesting and breath-taking views. It is really enjoyable and relaxing but also quite interesting !

Excursions to Mt Etna are among the most important attractions suggested.
Mount Etna is the highest mountain in Sicily and the biggest volcano in Europe.
It is possible to reach the summit area with 5 active craters, but remaining at a safety distance and enjoying the view from the highest place in Sicily.
Or decide to visit some of the lower side craters spread all over the slopes, which are not dangerous while they'll never erupt twice.
The last eruption started May 2008 and lasted July 2009.
