Pisa is a small Tuscan gem, known worldwide for its Leaning Tower, standing in the Miracles Field, together with the Cathedral, the Baptistery and the Monumental Cemetery, but what about the rest of the town, which makes it a real treasure trove of history and art?
From its wild and magical beaches (Calambrone and Marina di Vecchiano), its Natural Park (San Rossore), Botanical garden, majestic churches and historical buildings to its mythical legends and dramatic history, Pisa can only be regarded as a jewel of the Tuscan Coast.
What better way to discover the hidden secrets of Pisa and its off the beaten path attractions than through a 2/3 hour walking tour along the narrow streets of the old town centre?
The tour includes brief stops at typical wine shops, craft workshops and historical sites which are on the path, completing squares and architectural sights, that speak of an ancient past (such as Piazza dei Cavalieri, Piazza delle Vettovaglie, Palazzo Agostini-Venerosi, Palazzo Gambacorti, and Palazzo Blu), and breathtaking visual points of the city.
A delighting walk trough the narrow streets and alleys of the medieval town centre, discovering its churches, squares, convents, tower-houses and traditional artcraft shops, finishing with a glass of good wine in a tipical Italian Bar.

''Take a walk back in time''
A fascinating walk through the narrow street of Volterra,a real Etruscan gem and one of the most beautiful and lesser known hilltop towns tucked away in the heart of Tuscany.
The ''magic and mysterious'' Volterra has its roots in three thousand years of history and the fact it is possible to find evidence and traces from every historical period gives the city a unique aspect.
Starting from Piazza Martiri della Liberta, we walk down to ‘Porta all’Arco’, rare example of Etruscan military architecture, gateway belonging to the 4th century BC city walls, then up to Piazza San Giovanni with the antique Cathedral and Baptistery; a few steps away: Piazza dei Priori, symbol of the civic and political power, and two of the most interesting examples of Medieval buildings: the Buomparenti tower-houses.
Proceeding along Via dei Sarti, the Reinassance Palazzo Minucci-Solaini, housing the city picture gallery, stands out. Withing the end of the tour, the astonishing view over the remains of a Roman theatre and Roman baths.
Not to mention the exclusive alabaster workshops (we will visit one of the most famous in town).
This tour can be tailored according to your needs and interests.
If you wish it could be added or changed with:
-A stroll up to the Park Enrico Fiumi where the ancient acropolis was placed and where today stands a Renaissance Fortress now a top security prison.
- Etruscan museum Guarnacci
- Pinacoteca (city picture gallery)
- Palazzo dei Priori (Town hall palace)
- tasting of typical local products
Duration: 3 hours

I am an art historian from the Université de Montréal. Then, I am quite picky about the quality of art guides. I have to say that I have been very satisfied with Martina because she is highly competent about the art treasures and places in Pisa. She was able to answer all my picky and annoying questions!! The tour I did was the one BEYOND THE TOWER, during last march. Of course I know the lining t... Read more...

It was a great way to start my Pisa visit with a Volterra tour with Martina. Very welcoming and highly enriching. With an extensive academic background in art, it is then easy to understand the whole history of ''what, why, when, who'' and even notice how architectural culture and historic events combine to give you the Tuscany we know today.
Great guide and great city. Two thumbs up
