Guided tour #2: SAHARAN OASES (with 4x4) Mountains, Gorges and

Mountains, Gorges and the Sahara

SIGHTS: Tour includes visits to Marrakech, the High Atlas mountains, the
Dades Gorge, the Todra Gorge, the palm groves of the Draa valley and
Saharan sand dunes.

Day 1: Arrive Marrakech. Transfer to hotel. Sightseeing in Marrakech,
founded in the late 11th century by the Berber Almoravid dynasty. Morning
visits to the Menara gardens, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs and
the Bahia Palace. Lunch and afternoon visits to the markets of the old
city and the famous Djemaa al-Fna square where story tellers, snake
charmers, musicians and acrobats perform. Dinner and Overnight Marrakech.

Day 2: Marrakech-Ouarzazate. After breakfast drive into the High Atlas
Mountains. Visit to Telouet, the picturesque fortified stronghold of the
famous Glawi pashas who controlled much of the south until the 1950s.
Continue to Ouarzazate. Dinner and Overnight Ouarzazate.

Day 3: Ouarzazate-Kalaa Megouna.

Day 4: Kalaa Megouna-Dades Gorge-Todra Gorge-Tinghir. After breakfast
drive to the rose-producing Dades valley followed by the dramatic Todra
Gorge with its sheer 300-500 metre rock sides. Dinner and Overnight
Tinghir.

Day 5: Tinghir-Erfoud-Merzouga. After breakfast drive to Erfoud. Visit
Erfoud then continue to Merzouga in the Sahara to spend the night Bedouin
style in nomad Berber tents. Dinner and Overnight Merzouga.

Day 6: Merzouga-Zagora. Early start to watch the sun rise in the Sahara.
After breakfast drive along the south side of the Anti-Atlas to El Nif
then continue to Zagora, an old caravan stop on the trans-Saharan route
south.

Day 7: Zagora-Ouarzazate-Marrakech. After breakfast drive north through
the palm groves of the Draa valley to Ouarzazate. Lunch then afternoon
drive across the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. Dinner and Overnight
Marrakech.

Day 8: Depart Marrakech.

Day 1: Arrive Marrakech. Transfer to hotel. Sightseeing in Marrakech,

valley including lunch ending in Zagora. Dinner and overnight Zagora.

Day 4: Zagora-Erfoud-Merzouga. After breakfast drive to El Nif then along
the south side of the Anti-Atlas. Lunch then continue to Erfoud and the
sand dunes at Merzouga. Overnight at Merzouga in nomad Berber tents.

Day 5: Merzouga-Rissani-Erfoud-Tinghir. Early start to watch the sun rise
in the Sahara. Drive to Rissani, provincial capital of Tafilelt, the
ancestral home of the Moroccan monarchy. The ruins of Sijilmassa, a centre
of the trans-Saharan trade founded in the 8th century, stand near Rissani.
Continue via Erfoud to Tinghir. Dinner and Overnight Tinghir.

Day 6: Tinghir-Todra Gorge-Ouarzazate. After breakfast visit the Tinghir
palm groves and drive up the nearby Todra Gorge to view its 300-500 metre
sheer rock sides. Lunch in Todra Gorge. Afternoon drive to Ouarzazate.
Dinner and Overnight Ouarzazate.

Day 7: Ouarzazate-Ait Ben Haddou-Marrakech. Morning visit to the Kasbah
Taourirt in Ouarzazate, which used to belong to the Glawi pashas of the
south. Drive to Ait Ben Haddou, a striking fortified village which became
a world heritage site in 1987. Lunch then afternoon drive to Marrakech
across the High Atlas Mountains. Dinner and Overnight Marrakech.

Day 8: Depart Marrakech.
