Rotterdam has risen to world fame because of its modern architecture. The last decades Rotterdam has seen the realisation of a number of beautiful, impressive or striking buildings, that draw all possible attention. But modern architecture has a much longer

tradition than that. A good deal before the war ground breaking houses, offices and public buildings were designed and built. After the war time destruction a golden opportunity arose for the Rotterdam architects and urban planners to realise their modernist ideas. In some cases their work was to quick and not enough thought trough, so that some post war buildings have been torn down already and replaced by new and more imaginative works. Your guide will take you past sky scraping buildings, apartment blocks, offices and public buildings that shape the city. The guide will inform you about the buildings, styles and backgrounds and features of the buildings. This way you will get an accurate picture of the development of the Rotterdam, Dutch and global architecture.

•Schouwburgplein (Theatre Square)

•Cubic Houses
