Guided tour #1: Art Deco in Gdynia/ Hanseatic Gdańsk

Duration : 1 day
Level : medium Medium
Day 1: A visit to the youngest city of Poland - Gdynia, which was constructed in the twenties of 20th century. Today's city of 250 thousand inhabitants boasts one of the best collections of Art Deco buildings, both residential and industrial. The houses are concentrated in the very city centre while the harbour contains a number of modern-style granaries and silos. All of them display characteristic features of the style, such as streamline facades, rounded corners, vertical pilasters or ribbon-shaped window settings.

Day 2: Gdańsk, once Danzig, although destroyed by the Red Army in 1945, managed to emerge from under the rubble and proudly presents its many medieval churches (including the biggest brick church in the world), Grand Crane and Great Mill.

Day 3: The former Nazi concentration camp in Stutthof. 60 km away from Gdańsk, started as early as summer 1939 by the Gdańsk Germans, originally for the Poles from the Freie Stadt Danzig (Free City of Gdańsk).

Day 4: Frombork (Frauenburg) - the workplace of the Toruń born astronomer Nicolas Copernicus. The cathedral where he was buried, with an organ sample concert, the study and the observatory. 80 km to the east of Gdańsk.
