About me
Currently:
I tour around the Empordà area mostly (Girona-Costa Brava), here I was born. My interest in discovering all the hidden spots out there finds its way into planning guided tours around the nearby surroundings.

Contact:
I am based in the Empordà (Girona province, Costa Brava) in North-West Spain - Europe and can be reached on +34 607894536 or by email at nik@nikduserm.com

Background:
I went freelance in the 80’s with the support of a good bunch of friends, although I’ve been working in hotels and tourist offices along with some long stay periods in Scotland, North Rhine-Westphalia, Pennsylvania and New Zealand.

I’ve been showing the area to people from many different places, including United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Check Republic, Holland, Belgium, France, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA and of course Spain.

''So, 40 of us made our way to the town of Figueres to once again enter the Dali shrine, but this time we had our excellent guide, Nik Duserm, who has in the past treated us to wonderfully personal guided tours in our beautiful and fascinating region of Catalonia.
Surrealist art has always been somewhat of a mystery to me. On this occasion, thanks to Nik, my eyes were opened to a small part of Dali’s work, pictures inside pictures, the meaning of recurring images such as the fly and the amazing “sculpture” at the entrance of the Theatre,....''

From Sally's article ''Discovering Salvador Dalí''

The day you shared with the Crockers sounds just perfect. Hopefully,
some day you will show me this wonderful section of Spain.

It's always nice to be able to send people who are interested in art, architecture, the outdoors and culture of a country.
I'm pleased they were able to see some of the Costa Brava with you.

Thank you,
Muriel

...This recent trip, however, was with a guide who is well known in these parts as one of the best. Nik never fails to excite one's imagination and regale his audience with amusing anecdotes. Our visit to Peratallada was no

Guided tour #1: Spanish Civil War Tour

Duration : 1 day
Level : medium Medium
Although it was a period that really affected the area of the Empordà due to its proximity to the French frontier, especially in 1939 when the war was almost over, there is no much explained about and less signalled.

The tour, or better say the tours, follows the remains of different villages and sites that were affected by the war or became part of it.

Remains of airfields built by the Republicans, a building that hid the gold of the Bank of Spain, the last capital of the Republican Government, abandoned bunkers, remains of a village that was blown up before the arrival of the Franco troops, abandoned mausoleums built to the glory of the National victims and so on.

Guided tour #2: Peratallada

Duration : 1 day
Level : easy Easy
When I first started guiding in Peratallada in 1996 almost no one was talking about this medieval village that still preserves part of its moats, carved in the rock, defensive walls and the original fortress next to the palace.

After more than 200 guided tours, there is still plenty for me (and you) to discover.
The visit takes around 75 minutes, although if you have the time it can last at least 2 hours!

Not just the medieval remains and its history but a closer look to recent details that makes the village still alive.
