Matthias F., private driver guide all over Spain
Are you interested in background and context information?
Do you want in depth explanations on Andalusian art and culture, its language and traditions?
Would you like to know more about the cultural heritage of the Moorish period or about Baroque painting?
Do you want to see breathtaking natural settings with beautiful flora and fauna?
I grew up in Spain and studied in Germany (M.A. in Comparative Religions, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Indology and History of European and Oriental Art).
In 1990 I started working as a tour guide all over Spain and since 1992 I've been living in Arcos de la Frontera with my family.
I simply love my profession and the region where I'm living, - and it shows. The passion I experience when people are amazed, for example, when contemplating and understanding a beautiful piece of art or a surprising landscape is difficult to describe.

Tours
Cadiz is the starting point for the 'Route of the White Villages' of the Sierra de Cadiz. You will be visiting Arcos de la Frontera, Grazalema and Zahara de la Sierra, villages that have been carved into the mountains with small and whitewashed streets and which are alive with history, small, dreamlike ''plazas'' and ''patios'' with balconies that overlook valleys, mountains and dramatic rock outcroppings. And the Sierra itself, with its forests of Pinsapo trees and cork oaks, offers many surprises.
Our day and the time we start the tour is flexible and is meant to accommodate your schedule and interests.
I suggest the following itinerary:
1. Meeting in Cádiz (or Jerez) de la Frontera.
2. About 1 (1/2) hour drive to Arcos de la Frontera.
3. Visit of Arcos' old quarter (Santa Maria & San Pedro's church) and coffee-break (ca. 90 min.)
4. 1 hour drive through the mountains to Grazalema
5. Visit of Grazalema and lunch time. Tapas in a typical bar (ca. 2 hours)
6. 1/2 hour drive to Zahara de la Sierra. Visit of the Moorish Castle and the local artisanal Olive oil mill (extra virgin)with oil tasting.
7. Driving back to Cadiz (1 hour 40 minutes)

ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA, (Half day or full day visit)
Walking through the streets of this town, that seems to be painted on the slopes of a mountain at the beginning of the Sierra de Cádiz, is like being transported to a dreamlike place of small, narrow and hilly streets, white houses and lovely stoned “patios” full of colourful flowers. But Arcos also calls to let yourself be impressed by the beautiful panoramic view that is to be seen from the “Plaza del Cabildo,” which overlooks the valley of the Guadalete River and the orchards and lemon trees with the Sierra behind. We will visit and enjoy the most important monuments, finding out the artistic-symbolic language of the Santa Maria Church and of San Pedro. In the afternoon we will visit a “Bodega” in the most pure “Chateau” - style, and taste some of its excellent wines. And if there is still time, we suggest a visit to a ceramics workshop where an artisan makes fascinating mosaics following the traditional Moorish-Andalusí techniques. To finish the day off we may also visit the excavation-site where some huge water deposits have been very well conserved from the time of the Romans.

CÁDIZ,(Half day or full day visit)
From “Puerta Tierra” you will be taken you to the accurately named “City of light and wind” or “Small silver cup”, walking the almost circular form of the city on the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy the atmosphere of the streets and squares of Cádiz, specially the surroundings of the Central Market, the Viña Quarter and La Caleta. You will also go to see the Church of San Felipe Neri and the Parlament-Museum (closed until 2012 due to restoration). In the former Women’s Hospital there are some beautiful architectural details and a masterpiece of one of our greatest painters, El Greco, to be admired. In the Santa Cueva Oratory you’ll enjoy the paintings by Francisco Goya and listen to music by Joseph Haydn. Other monuments worth seeing are the Cathedral, the Archeological Museum, and the Tavira Tower with its “Camera Obscura” or Dark Room.
