A trip to Dougga allows you to witness the remains of an amazing civilisation away from a major center. The level of preservation and detail that remains is fascinating and the access to all parts of the site is excellent. At least 11 temples have survived, of which the Capitol and the Temple of Caelestis are the greatest. Temples like the ones of Mercury and Tellus were smaller in size and decoration yet made from good building material. There are a plenty of houses of Dougga, and they can roughly be divided into two types. Carthaginian had entrance leading into a court, then with the entrance to the side into the dwelling quarters. Roman, on the other hand, had direct access into the dwelling quarters.
